Matt Saunders, JD, 35, of Austin passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and closest friends. Matt was born October 4, 1974 in La Grange, TX.

Matt is survived by his wife, Jessica Saunders; Matt's children, Maison McKinney and Jack Saunders; Mother, Claudean Saunders of La Grange; Father, former Texas State Representative, Robert M. Saunders and his wife Teresa Saunders of Bastrop; Matt's brothers, John Saunders and his wife Jenny Sharp, and Richard Saunders and his wife Bridget Saunders; Grandparents, Manly and Sophie Leyendecker of Columbus; Brother and sister in law Joel and Jennifer Gilmore; brother in law Brett Jones; three step-brothers, Jess, Gabe, and Max Hackebeil; eight nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents; Clarence and Lillian Saunders of Smithville.

The Saunders family received friends on Wednesday evening, May 5th, followed by a Rosary and fellowship at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, May 6th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin.

Matt loved his family and friends, closely followed by his love for his Alma Mater, Texas A&M. Matt will always be remembered by his selfless and caring personality – making a profound, positive effect on everyone he knew. Matt was a sports enthusiast and college football diehard. Matt very much enjoyed taking the short trip to Aggieland to attend A&M home games each fall with his closest friends. Obvious though to everyone, Matt's truest love and fulfillment was the joy he found in his life with his wife Jessica and their children, Jack and Maison.
