Actor. He is best remembered for his portrayal of the eccentric Ben Linker in "10 to Midnight" (1983). Born unto a traditional working-class family, the third of seven children, upon his parent's immigration to the United States in the late-1930s, after attending public schools in New York City, New York, he attained his degree in theatrical arts and began a career on the Broadway stage. After working for over 15 years in stock companies, he was discovered by director Richard Benedict during a dinner party at the prestigious Russian Tea Room. Impressed by his articulate voice, dark good looks, and slim physique, he took notice of his potential and arranged for him to relocate to California and begin a career in the television industry beginning with him appearing in a supporting role under his supervision in an episode of "12 O'Clock High". From there, he would go on to enjoy a successful career as a notable character actor appearing in over 30 features; often typecast as faithful servants, white-collared workers, educators, doctors, soldiers, waiters, photographers, detectives, clergymen, landlords, clergymen, neighbors, con-artists, sidekicks, retail clerks, salesmen, cowboys, gigolos, husbands, and fathers. He appeared in numerous guest spots on such syndicated sitcoms as "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.," "Bonanza," "Judd for the Defense," "The High Chaparral," "Hawaii Five-O," "Toma," "McCloud," "Police Woman," "Starsky and Hutch," "The Rockford Files," and "The Fall Guy". In motion pictures, he appeared in such feature films as "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre"(1967), "The Pleasure Game" (1970), "The Last Movie" (1971), "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" (1972), "Gabo Blanco" (1980), "On the Nickel" (1980), "The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood" (1980), "Movie Madness" (1982), "Real Genius" (1985), "Tequila Sunrise" (1988), and "Fires Within" (1991). During his career, he was a naturalized United States Citizen, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, had been a member of the Screen Actors Guild, was supportive of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, had been a regular parishioner of the Catholic church, was supportive of the California State Democratic Committee, had been a chairman for his local charters of the American Red Cross and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, was a theatrical instructor for the Pasadena Playhouse, and was one of the founding members of the Canyon Theatre Guild. After retiring from acting in 1991, Ades, who never married nor fathered any children, spent the final year of his life being a generous benefactor for several libraries and missions and focused on charitable and religious causes, until his death from the complications of undisclosed causes.
