Mary Jane Abbott, 85, of Troy, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.

She was born in Troy on Dec. 31, 1922, to the late Santford George and Nellie (Niswonger) Mapes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Abbott; who passed away Jan. 18, 1982.

Mary Jane is survived by her adopted daughter, Shirley Newman of Troy; nieces and nephews, Barbara (Richard) Bollenbacher of Piqua, Beverly (Jim) Schenck of Lebanon, Ind., Richard Mapes of Tipp City, Mary Ann (Joe) Shell of Davenport, Iowa, Linda (Andy) Drysdale of Boise, Idaho, Connie (Fred) Barhorst of Sidney and Gail (Charles) Doll of Piqua; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry N. Mapes; her sister, Mabel Boram.

Mary Jane retired as an inspector in 1985 from Hobart Brothers, Troy, after 35 years of service, and she was a member of the Hobart Milestone Club.

She attended the First United Church of Christ in Troy. Mary Jane was a member of the Troy Senior Citizens.

There will be a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, with Pastor Al Bastin officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
