Garland Douglas "Doug" Adams, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, April 29, 2012.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Howard K. Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano
Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Doug was born Aug. 26, 1930, in the community of Fieldton to Clara Mae and Garland Russel Adams. He graduated from Amherst High School. Doug served in the Marine Corp.

Following his tour of duty, he remained in the Marine Reserves. He farmed outside of Hereford for many years before being hired to manage Community Grain Elevator of Easter in Dimmitt for 15 years. He was hired by Hale Center Wheat Growers Inc. in 1975, and worked there as the elevator manager until his retirement in 1995. He also served as a director of the Texas Cooperative Marketing Exchange Inc. from 1984 to 1995. He was a very
successful and well-respected businessman in the grain business.

Following his dedicated work career, Doug welcomed retirement and enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling in his RV motor home with the RV Club. He married Betty Pinkston in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Adams; and sister, Pat Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Steven Douglas Adams and wife Ginger of Plainview; a daughter, Tamera Holshouser and husband Graham of Boone, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Debbie
Bernson; two grandchildren, Bradley and Brandon Holshouser; three stepgrandsons; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Healthcare, 6900 W. Interstate 40, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106.
