Sonya Nanette Hancock Coker

SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Sonya Nanette Hancock Coker, 61, sister of an Abilene resident, died Tuesday in Shawnee.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in New Hope Baptist Church with John Mixon and John Coker III officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, directed by Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh, Okla.

Mrs. Coker was born in Okmulgee, Okla., and graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1955. She married Jimmie Dale Coker in 1955 in Okmulgee, Okla., and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1960. She taught school at Dale, Altus, Mid-Del and Bethel for a total of 31 years before retiring in 1991. She played the piano at New Hope Baptist Church since 1982.

Survivors include her husband, of Shawnee; two sons, Jimmie Dale Coker Jr. of Prague, Okla., and Cary Russell Coker of Oklahoma City; one brother, Omer "Butch" Hancock of Abilene; five grandchildren; two aunts and two uncles; seven nieces and seven nephews; and many other relatives.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Shawnee, New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund or American Cancer Society.
