Born Rebecca D. Axford in New Jersey, she married John Addis, Jr. in 1836. Rebecca became a widow before she arrived in Montana. She was living at 102 Clark Street at the time of her death, which was the residence of Judge John W. Eddy. Rebecca died on January 1, 1888, age 77 of pneumonia. (Helena Weekly Herald, 1/5/1888) Judge Eddy paid Herrmann & Co. $75.00 for her cloth casket and outside box and $6.00 for digging the grave by Schmidt, totaling $81.00. She is buried in Section B, Row 8.
