Ida Johnson was born on the Johnson farm near Woodford on 24 Jun 1884. She was the second child of Michael and Ingeborg (Dæhlin) Johnson, both from the Hadeland area in Norway. She was christened and confirmed at the East Wiota Lutheran Church. Ida started high school in Argyle, Wisconsin but she longed for a better education and set a goal of becoming a missionary nurse. She finished high school in Montevideo, Minnesota and started to train as a nurse at the Lutheran Deaconess Home in Chicago. She met Dr. Olav S. Behrents while he was home on furlough from the mission field in China.
Ida and Olav were married 27 Aug 1908 at her Wiota church. They left almost immediately for Kioshan, Honan China where Olav had been instrumental in building a hospital and home. Although they returned to the United States several times, they lived much of the next 20 years at this location. Three of their five children were born there as well. The Behrents family returned in 1927 to live permanently in Three Rivers, MI.
Following the death of her beloved husband, Olav, in 1936, Ida opened and operated a boarding house, determined in her family goal of higher education for all of her children. She proudly displayed her military stars, representing the active participation of three of her children in the Armed Forces in World War II.
She retired to Galesburg, Illinois, in 1950 and in 1960 moved to Tucson, dividing her time with her daughters in Addison, IL and Tucson, AZ.
Ida passed away on April 29, 1974, firm in her personal confidence in the Word of God and anticipating her rise into the presence of the Lord. After services in her church, Calvary Lutheran in Tucson, her family laid her to rest May 2, 1974 beside her husband in Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
