--Eldest of 7 children of Jeremiah "Jerry" Hackett & wife Ida Maxwell. Zoe's father was a moulder at iron foundries and they moved for his work. They moved to Pittsburgh when Zoe was very young and then back to Birmingham by 1896. They moved to Charlotte about 1904.
--Zoe married George T. Smith. They had 2 children: George T. Jr and Zoe.

"Mrs. Zoe Smith Funeral Today"

Funeral services for Mrs. Zoe H. Smith, 51, wife of George T. Smith, who died yesterday morning at 2:45 o'clock in a local hospital, will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Douglas and Sing chapel, conducted by Dr. Charles A. McClure, pastor of Caldwell Memorial church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Pallbearers will be W.E. Price, Reginald L. Price, J.B. Brinckell, Dr. W.W. Craven, Dr. J.C. Estridge, and C.R. Teal.

A native of Alabama, Mrs. Smith was formerly Miss Zoe Hackett. She had lived in Charlotte for many years. She was a member of Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian church.

Surviving Mrs. Smith are her husband, George T. Smith; one son, George T. Smith, Jr.; one daughter, Zoe H. Smith; and five sisters, Mrs. O.P. Littell, Mrs. R.L. Frazier, Mrs. Dorothy Dagenhart, Mrs. Earl Elson, and Mrs. Egbert Cook, all of Charlotte.

Gravesite Details

Research by Jeffrey Houser revealed that Zoe and George Smith are buried in X-26A, but their graves are mismarked since markers in place are for another Smith couple, Cyril and Leila.
