Musician. Born John Christopher Ethridge, he was a bass guitarist most noted as a co-founder and member of the country rock group The Flying Burrito Brothers. He began playing in local bands in the south at age 17 before moving to California, meeting up with pianist Gram Parsons of The Byrds and the International Submarine Band. In 1968, together with Gram Parsons they formed The Flying Burrito Brothers. He collaborated with Parsons as a songwriter on their first album "The Gilded Palace in the Sun" (1969), which produced the classic hits "Hot Burrito 1", "Hot Burrito 2" and "She". In February 1976, he left the Burritos to be a session musician, recording with Johnny Winter, Leon Russell, Randy Newman, Jackson Browne and toured with Willie Nelson for eight years. In 1991, he re-joined the Burritos which toured, plus released a few past pre-recorded live albums and the new album, "Eye of the Hurricane (1996). Ethridge also performed with artist Ry Cooder, the Doors, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Randy Newman, plus many others. He died of cancer at age 65.
