WAS SERIOUSLY ILL AT HIS DAUGHTER'S TWO WEEKS
WAS A VICTIM OF DIABETES
Old Resident of This Vicinity and an Honorable Man—Funeral Not Set – Probably Sunday
John Heller died Sunday last at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Bennett, in Newport, Oregon He had been in poor health a year or more past, being a victim of diabetes. He and Mrs. Heller decided to take a trip to the Pacific coast, where two children reside, in the hope that benefit might result in his health, but the result was quite the contrary. The couple left here August 15, intending to remain about two months. Two weeks ago, Mr. Heller's condition became more serious and he failed rapidly.
Mr. Heller was one of Perry township’s early settlers and a man of honor and integrity. He was a native of Luzerne county, Pa., where he was born July 23, 1844. He married Catherine Balliet there August 6, 1864, and the couple came west in 1807, locating on land two miles east of the present site of Traer. Here they lived many years and reared a family of seven children. In 1900 they quit the farm and came to Traer to live. Of the seven children six are living and all grew to maturity One son, Albert, died In 1916 The others are Mary Bennett, Newport, Oregon; Lizzie Rogers, Chanute, Kan.; Richard, in Traer; Rose Knode, Waterloo: Sam, El Campo, Texas; Harve, Toledo, Oregon. Mr. Heller was a member of the U. P. church of Traer. He was a kindly gentleman, always disposed to do right, a husband and father in every way worthy.
The body is on the way to Traer, accompanied by Mrs. Heller and her daughter Rose, who went west with her parents. They left for the cast Tuesday and are expected in Traer tonight or tomorrow. The funeral has not yet been scheduled but, will probably not be hold before Sunday. The date cannot be fixed until the body arrives.
