"In a world where everyone seems to be larger and louder than yourself, it is very comforting to have a small, quiet companion." (Peter Gray)

When you are under a tremendous pressure they tell you to think of a place that makes you calm and happy.

Through all the terrible moments, through the bad days, through the meanness of people ....... and through some amazingly wonderful days, through love and joy, I had a wonderful place to think of for many years.

Every morning she sat on the quilt with me as I drank my coffee or read a book at night.

She knew the best places to sleep in the sun and where to squeeze into for a quiet nap.

She never rubbed herself hard against your leg or face, she always felt so gentle like a whisper.

And when she purred it was loud enough to destroy any hope of sleeping in.

Cassie couldn't "meow", she made little yakky sounds and her purrs sounded like Doves cooing.

I found Cassie in the back of a rescue center. No one was looking at her because her crate had a huge red sign "Quarantine". It turns out it was for a special diet. I walked up to her cage and saw a scared beautiful calico cat with gorgeous green eyes. Cassie looked me right in the eyes and reached out her six toed paws and caught my finger in her grasp. It hurt a little, but it was love at first sight.

She moved six times with us, crammed into a little carrier on my lap through all those states and through all the long hours. The other cats and dogs sat in the back, but she was always up front pressing against my hand to be petted.

After a few years Cassie developed kidney disease and we put her on a special diet and then on fluids injected twice a week. Then she developed diabetes and we gave her daily injections of insulin. She was so resilient and took all the fuss and treatments calmly.

Every one of my pets was very special and much loved, but Cassie owned my heart.
