Colonial Royal Governor. One of the early governors of Rhode Island Colony, elected 8 November 1678. Possibly the first man in the English colonies to be granted a license to practice medicine, 1663. Inscription: In memory of John Cranston, who was governor of the colony, died March 12, 1680 aged 55.
