He was named "Red" at birth in my best friend's previous home and named "Nicholas" by someone who took him for a couple weeks, but returned him. He was given to me in spring 1985. When my mother acquired a cat in 1990, I suggested she name her Czarina Alexandra and Nicholas was re-named Czar Nicholas, so that they were named after the last royal couple of Russia, but I continued to call him Nicholas. My mother died in 1999, leaving me Alexandra, as she called her, but Nicholas would chase her in a territorial way and she would hide under my bed for hours. At 15, Nicholas was plagued by constant constipation, hairballs and arthritis and I could not bear to have my mother's younger cat "put down" so it pained me, but I had the elder Nicholas "put to sleep." He was a very good male cat, but not as affectionate as the female Alexandra. Cremation & urn arrangements by AAA Pet Services - Cemetery & Crematory / 25280 Pennsylvania Rd. / Taylor. His urn rests on my mantle with his collar & ID tag around the neck of the urn.
