Margaret (Peggy) Matson Adams, 69, of Statesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville on Saturday, April 7, 2012 after six months of declining health. She will truly be missed by her family members and friends.
She was born in Pocahontas, West Virginia on June 28, 1942 and was the daughter of Torrence Jesse Matson of Statesville and the late Sybil Carbaugh Matson. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by a brother Torrence Jesse Matson Jr.
Peggy graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1962 and from the Roanoke Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She worked as a register nurse at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in psychiatric and pediatric nursing and Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Peggy was a committed teacher at the Charles Shedd program for students with Dyslexia or Attention Deficit Disorder from 1974 until 1989 as well a teacher of art at the Statesville Montessori school.
She was a member of the Board of Directors and served as Secretary-Treasurer for Global Language Camps, Inc., a French and Spanish summer camp for students in grades 2-12, from 1986 until 1994. She served as a nurse during the summer camps. Peggy was a gifted artist and displayed her art at many local venues.
In addition to her father, she is survived by a daughter, Margaret Holland Adams (Rick Hodgson), of Baltimore, Maryland, three sons, Wesley (Wes) Adams, of Columbia, SC, Matson (Mat) Adams, and Brann Adams, both of Statesville, a grandson James Wesley Adams, of Charlotte.
A service to celebrate the life of Peggy Adams will be conducted 10:30 AM Thursday, April 12, 2012 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the services at the funeral home.
