POQUOSON - Linda June Parker Barnes, 67, a native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, went to be with Jesus on Christmas Day 2011.

Linda was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and the adult choir. She started her civil service career at Fort Monroe where she always called "home" and met her beloved, Warren. During her 37 years of service, she received two Superior Civilian Service Awards from TRADOC and DeCA, and numerous honors for her career. She was a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and the National Contract Management Association. At the time of Linda's retirement, she was employed by DOD Civil Service where she worked as a DeCA Senior Procurement Analyst. She was a valued staff member for Delegate Gordon Helsel in serving on his campaign. She enjoyed crocheting, genealogy, and Sudoku. Linda's passion in life was singing in her church choir and spending time with her family. She especially loved her grandsons, Justin, Carter, and Travis with whom she was affectionately known as 'Nana' and 'Granny.'

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Parker.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Warren Barnes; son, Terry Miller and wife, Lynn; daughter, Tracey Redman and husband, Bob; stepdaughter, Tracey Boyett; and stepson, Chris Barnes; three grandchildren, Justin Miller, Carter Redman and Travis Redman; a brother, Terry Parker; special family, Jo Leeson, Lil Pelesz and Evelyn Parker; and two nieces, Sherri Firman and Kim Major.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, and other times at her home, 64 Rens Road. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, at the church by the Rev. Dr. Bill Wash and the Rev. Milford C. Rollins. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hampton.
