Guyve Thomas, 85 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Monday, April 16, 2012 Born Tuesday, September 14, 1926 in Dyer County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charles Clarence Thomas and the late Mary Jane Nolen Thomas.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He started Thomas Construction in 1966 and owned and operated the company until his retirement in 1992. Upon his retirement he turned the business over to his son, Jeff, who continues the family business along with his grandson David. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. He was a member of the Newbern First Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating this service will be Rev. Danny Klutts. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
He leaves the following to cherish his memory; wife, Marcia Thomas of Newbern,Tennessee; two sons Stan Thomas and Jeff Thomas both of Newbern, Tennessee and their wives Anita and Deborah; four grandchildren, Kristi Getson and husband Scott, David Thomas and wife Nicky, Emilee French and husband Mike and Mary Kathryn Thomas; six great-grandsons, Evan Guy Thomas, Ty Thomas, Matt Getson, Luke Getson, Aaron French and Clark French.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Thomas and Joe Thomas; four sisters, Lelma Rice, Edith Asbridge, Mabel Rogers Little and Blondell Wagster.
Pallbearers will be Bryan McBride, Randy Wolf, Marvin Wagster, Sandy Hill, Tom Foster and K. W. Dennison. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Coffman, Barry Ladd, Alan Wilks, Ben Allen and Mike Ladd.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Newbern First Baptist Church Building Fund, 114 Main Street, Newbern, Tennessee 38059.
