Our old friend and neighbor Mr. Benson died at his home Friday morning at 3 o'clock. The old gentleman has been sick five or six weeks. He was buried in the cemetery near the Pittsburgh school house. He will be sadly missed by his many friends.
Born in South Carolina, Abel Benson married Harriet Lindley in Morgan county, MO on 17 Dec 1840. They had the following children: Amanda F, John B, Abel McLeod, Perion Taylor, and Sarah E. Harriet died about 1852, and he remarried Virginia Jane Turner. He was in Hickory county, MO as early as 1852. Abel and Virginia had the following children: Mary M, Susan E, Henryetta B, Eliza Jane, Fannie E, Abel, Frank, Theadocia, Orlee, and Homer. He was a blacksmith.
