Folk Figure. Last surviving Civil War widow. On December 10, 1927, at the age of 21. Alberta Stewart met and married 81 year old William Jasper Martin who was a Confederate Veteran of the Civil War. He was a widower born in Georgia in 1845 who had a $50-a-month Confederate veteran's pension. William Martin died in 1931 at age 86.
