Jacob Bauman had nine children. His children Nancy, Jonathan, Maria and Lydia were born in Pennsylvania. His children Esther, Samuel, Henry and Sarah Ann were born in Ohio. His last child Jacob was born in Indiana.

The first known document that can be attributed to J. Jacob Bauman is the baptism of his daughter Maria in the Oley Reformed Church in Oley Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Her baptismal record states that she was born the daughter of Jacob Bauman and Elisabeth on Jan. 30, 1813 . She was baptized on Jun 13, 1813 and the sponsors were George Richstein and Maria Bauman. Note:The sponsor George Richstein might be the same George Richstine that is buried next to Jacob & Elizabeth Bauman in Poland, Indiana.

Jacob Bauman bought land in Clay and Owen Counties Indiana on August 1, 1839. On the deeds he was listed as a resident of Wayne County Indiana. His children Nancy, Jonathan, Maria, and Lydia were married in Wayne County Indiana. His son Jonathan also bought land near Jacob on August 1, 1839.

The children of J. Jacob Bauman and their husbands and wives are known through two land deeds. These land deeds were J. Bauman etal to J. Bauman recorded on September 28, 1852 and J. Bauman et al To A. N. Turner executed on November 17, 1858. In these deeds the children of J. Jacob Bauman listed in these deeds were Nancy Nees and her husband Jacob, Jonathan Bauman and his wife Phebe(nee Fertig) , Mary Zumpe and her husband Gerhard, Lydia Ahlemeyer and her husband Henry, Esther Spelbring and her husband John Henry, Samuel Bauman and his wife Mary(nee Arnold) , Henry Bauman and his wife Elizabeth(nee Beshore), Sarah Arnold and her husband John, and Jacob Bauman and his wife Mary(nee Huber).

Jacob Bauman helped found the Zion German Reformed Church (now known as the Zion United Church of Christ). Services for the new church were first held in Jacob Bauman's house in the autumn of 1841 and spring of 1842. His son-in-law Gerhard Zumpe was the first minister of this church. Gerhard Zumpe was born in Lotta, Prussia and was educated in Berlin before he immigrated to the United States in 1832.

Jacob Bauman died on May 9, 1848 and was buried in the Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery located in Poland, Indiana.

Note: A 37 marker DNA test has demonstrated a relationship of Jacob Bauman to Casper Bauman (1724-1789) of Bally, Berks, Pennsylvania.
