Queen consort of Spain. Born Archduchess of Austria as niece of Emperor Ferdinand I von Habsburg, she was the wife of the King of Spain and Portugal Felipe III and co-progenitor of the French Bourbon dynasty. Her most famous nephew was Louis XIV. Margarita of Austria is considered by historians to be a woman of considerable temperament, protector of the arts and social and religious institutions. Many experts from the Spanish royal house claim that she died of poisoning.
