Beckman, Louis, 84, of Spring Hill, passed away April 12, 2012. He was born on a farm in Angelus, KS on August 23, 1927. He was the sixth child of ten kids, five boys and five girls. Lou was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He was an avid bowler and secretary/ treasurer for the Knights of Columbus bowling league for many years. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and loved baseball, football and hockey.
When Lou was 13, his family moved away from the farm to Denver, Colorado. He lived in Colorado for several years before being drafted into the US Air Force at age 18. He was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee Massachusetts. It was there that he met his wife of 62 years, Lucille Paro Beckman. Lucille passed away in 2008.
Lou lived in Springfield, Massachusetts for about 35 years working as a purchasing against for a local department store and later, for 25 years, as a Marketing Agent for ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Company). He lived in Vernon Hills, Illinois before retiring to Spring Hill in 1987. Lou has three daughters who have blessed him with five grandsons. He also, has a large extended family of nieces and nephews that live in Massachusetts and cross the country.
He was a fourth degree Knight of the St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus Council since 1993. Lou was often called on to participate and lead many of the fundraising activities of the parish. You may have seen his smiling face serving up cold ones at Beer booth at the St. Joan of Arc Ethnic festival for many years.
Lou was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Paro Beckman.
He is survived by his daughter Suzanne O'Sullivan (Michael), Springfield, MA; daughter Michele McNeish (William), Spring field, MA; daughter Nicole Ward (Travis), Feeding Hills, MA; grandsons Nathaniel Spear, Christian Spear, Taylor Spear, Evan Spear, Feeding Hills, MA and Brendan McNeish, Springfield, MA.
