Irene Deviney Blankenship, 92, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at White Oak Manor in Shelby where she had been a resident for 10 years. A native of Rutherford County she was the daughter of the late Noah and Dova Towery Deviney. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Robert Blankenship, and son-in-law Jack Lambert. Mrs. Blankenship was the oldest member of Faith Baptist Church. She was Christian lady who loved reading her Bible. She also loved making beaded jewelry and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blankenship was a retired CNA at Cleveland Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by two daughters, Evelyn McCracken and husband Dennis of Shelby and Norma Lambert of Grover; granddaughters, April Leonard and husband Wendell of Shelby and Ashley Garland and husband Ryan of Shelby; grandsons, Alan Wilkie and wife Beth of Shelby and Wayne Wilkie of Fort Mill, SC; three great grandsons, Mason Leonard and Tristan and Cameron Garland; two very special friends, Angie Bolin and Ruth Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. The Rev. Roger Webb and Rev. Otis Shelton will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:00am prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Evelyn and Dennis McCracken.
