Æthelstan Ætheling, King of England. Eldest son of King Æthelred the Unready by his first wife Ælfgifu and the heir apparent to the kingdom until his death. Born c 980. When his father was forced into exile to Normandy in 1013, very little is known about his sons. Æthelstan was known as a warrior and by his death had accumulated a large collection of swords, horses and combat equipment. Copies of his will still exists, which grants Edmund Ironside, the next King of England and Wessex a sword that once belonged to Offa of Mercia. The will does not mention of his mother, step mother or step-siblings, suggesting a large family rift at the time. He was buried at the Old Minster, Winchester, the first burial there of someone who was not king since Edward the Elder's brother, Æthelweard, in 922. It is assumed he was removed to Winchester Cathedral when it was built along side the Old Minster.

The memorial for his mother is unknown, created against Findagrave's policy and this memorial will not be linked to it.
