During August 1862 Lieutenant Quinn was serving as Post Adjutant, Fort Churchill, Nevada Territory. He was promoted First Lieutenant, Co. K, same organization, February 24, 1863, vice Darwin Chase. Lieutenant Quinn was on Detached Service, in the vicinity of Deep Creek guarding the Overland Stage Mail and Scouting from: April to: about August1863. Lieutenant Quinn was promoted Captain, Co. E, same organization, at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, March 9 and resigned June 14, 1864.
John Quinn also served in the United States Marine Corps.
