BIGGSVILLE - "Jon" L. Curtiss, 62, Biggsville, died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday (May 30, 2007) at home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1944, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Lynn W. and Lillian M. Peterson Curtiss.

He married Kathie S. Bell on Feb. 14, 1984, in Burlington.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Daniel D. (and April) Hill, Farmer City, and Matthew T. Curtiss and Nathaniel J. "Rupe" Curtiss, both of Biggsville; an uncle, Wendell Peterson, Peoria; three grandsons; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He was reared in the Gladstone area, attending Coloma Country School, Gladstone Grade School, Biggsville High School and graduating from Union High School in 1962.

He served in the Army Reserves in Middletown, Iowa.

He worked 35 years at General Electric in Burlington as a lathe operator and welder and in the wire harness department, retiring in 2001. After retiring, he drove a school bus for School District 115 and also mowed yards with his son "Rupe."

He was a member of United Methodist Church. He was a member and chief of the Biggsville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Henderson County Sheriff's Auxiliary and was a substitute deputy in Biggsville. He was a member of the Quad Township Jaws of Life Team, the Biggsville Town Board and served on the Henderson County Crime Stoppers Board. He drove for Henderson County Ambulance Services.

He had coached girls' softball in Burlington and Stronghurst and was a baseball coach in Biggsville Midget, Pee Wee and Little Leagues.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Biggsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the church; family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Biggsville Township Cemetery. Turnbull Funeral Home, Biggsville, is in charge of arrangements.
