Harry Marshall Burgess, 77, of 11150 Buffalo Road, Gracey, died at 8:22 am Sunday at Jennie Stuart Medical Center after a long illness.
Services will be at 2pm Tuesday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with the Rev. Hal Shipley officiating, and burial in Lander Cemetery, Gracey.
Visitation will be from 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.
A Gracey native, he was born Aug. 9, 1913, son of the late George J. and Minnie Cox Burgess. He was a member of Buffalo Lick Baptist Church, Cadiz, where he was song leader for 50 years. In addition, he was a retired self-employed farmer, an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. An infant son, Jerry Douglas Burgess, died in 1937.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Henry Lander Burgess; a son, Ronald Kent "Buddy" Burgess, Dawson Springs; a daughter, Sylvia Diane Morgan, Arlington Heights, Ill.; and for grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
