Lillian Simmons Bell, age 95, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Bell was born on August 20, 1916, in Swainsboro, GA to the late Maude Maxwell and Walter Elliott Simmons.

Survivors include: her son, Eugene D. (Linda) Bell, Jr., of Fernandina Beach, FL; one daughter, Elizabeth Simmons Bell (Darrell) Lumpkin , of Macon, GA.; one sister, Dr. Kathryn Lovett, of Statesboro, GA; one brother, Gene Simmons, of Swainsboro, GA; five grandchildren, Eugene (Shari) Bell, Laura (Charles) Wright, Lisa Bell, Kathryn Bertram, and Frances Anderson; five great grandchildren.

Funeral Service were held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Father Curtis Mears officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery.

Lillian was the daughter of Clayton Columbus Simmons and Lillian Cox Simmons. Lillian died in 1916 leaving Clayton with 4 children. Sometime after 1920, Clayton's brother, Dr. Walter Elliot "Sam" and wife Maude took Lillian in as a foster child. Lillian was the same age as Kathryn.
