Juanita A. Galaz, 93, lifelong Grant County resident passed away on Tuesday evening, April 3, 2012 in Silver City. Juanita was born on February 8, 1919 in San Juan to Daria Jimenez and Anastacio Archuleta. Juanita married Roberto Galaz and raised their family in San Lorenzo on the family farm and ranch in the Mimbres Valley. Juanita was a devout communicant of the Catholic Church and a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include two daughters, Margie and her husband, Max Salcido of Tularosa and Florence Mae and her husband, David Yniguez of Silver City; four grandchildren, Fred and Kevin Salcido and Korrine and Valerie Rivera and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Robert; three sisters, Luz De La O, Isabel Dominguez and Antonia Perrault; two infant brothers and one great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Salcido. Family and friends will gather at St. Francis Newman Center on Monday April 9, 2011 where a Rosary service will be held at 11:00 a.m. led by her daughter, Margie Salcido. The funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated there at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Michael Williams, Pastor, officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Robert Galaz who passed away on October 21, 1995. Deacon Bill Holguin will preside at the graveside. Serving as pallbearers will be Frederick Salcido, Kevin Salcido, Ron Rivera, Steve Salaiz, Leonard Perrault and Kenneth Palmer.
