Funeral arrangements today were announced for 17 year old drowning victim Edward J. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Miller, Catherine.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Catherine. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Brock's North Hill Chapel from 7:30 p.m. today until service time.

Miller, Hays High School senior, drowned in the Rohr-Jacobs Lake seven miles southwest of Antonino about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Plainview rescue squad recovered the body from eight feet of water at 2:45 p.m. some 50 feet from the bank.

Undersheriff Dennis Gerstner said two companions, Mark Mills and Fred Weilert, Hays High seniors, made an unsuccessful attempt to rescue Miller. Weilert was overcome from exhaustion and he had to be dragged from the water by other companions, Gerstner said.... The six other boys at the lake, also Hays High seniors, were Dennis Burgardt, David Haddock, Myron Gerstner, Larry Dechant, Paul Carrasco and Joe Sanders...

Lawrence Weilbert, father of the boy who made an attempt to save Miller, said none of the boys had their parents' permission to go to the lake. Weilert said all nine boys were in one Car, Mills'.

Miller is survived by his parents, four brothers, Cletus, Wichita, Verlin, Stoddard, Wis., Lawrence, Wichita, Lambert, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Donald L. Gottschalk, Hutchinson, Miss Betty Miller, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Kenneth Kerbs Jr., Colorado Springs, Sandra, at home; grandmother, Mrs. Anna Dinkel, Walker.
