Nancy Melton could possibly have been the daughter of Acumo (seen often as Ocuma), a full blood Cherokee and John Melton, but not conclusive. The Melton family owned Melton's Bluff on the Tennessee River and many children were born in Alabama, such as: Moses Melton, Lewis Melton, James Melton, Elick Melton, David Melton (who sold the land to Andrew Jackson), Thomas Melton, Merida Melton and Charles Melton.
Nancy would have been half Cherokee, as shown in the Cherokee Roll. Birthplace and year show possibility of her being John Melton and Ocuma's daughter, but not proven however she is listed in the Old Settlers Roll in 1851 at Tahlequah, Cherokee Nation slightly below Lewis Melton and his family. Lewis is known to be the son of John Melton and Acumo. -see attached document.

Nancy married James W. Griffin (buried at Martin-Reese); one of their daughters Permelia Griffin Martin is buried at Martin Reese.
