Benjamin K. Ahrens, 71, retired federal government civil engineer of 1315 Kirkwood avenue, died Friday at Mercy hospital after a short illness. He had suffered from a heart condition.
Mr. Ahrens had been an Iowa City resident for five years.
He was born March 29, 1890, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles and Emma Ahrens Ahrens. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Luella Ahrens of Sacramento, Calif., two sons, James of Sacramento and William of Milwaukee, Wis., and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were to be conducted today at Memory Gardens. Beckman's was in charge.
