At the age of 30 Elisha Enlisted with the Union in the Civil War January 10, 1865 at Paducah, Kentucky 7th Tennessee Cav. Co. I Muster-out date was August 9, 1866 Nashville, Tennessee


Private, Company I, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted in Paducah, KY on 1/10/1865 furnishing his own horse and equipment and received a $66.66 bounty for enlistment. He mustered out at Nashville, TN on 8/7/1865 when the regiment disbanded. He joined the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Post #56 at Huntingdon, TN in 1887. In 1890 he applied for an invalid pension but was denied. His 2nd wife, Jane/Jincy A Bennett Tate, applied for and received a widow’s pension in 1901. He was brother to Jesse M Tate of Co I and John W Tate of Co G.
