WILSON -- Lila Mae Abercrombie, of Wilson, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at a hospital in Aurora. She was born March 22, 1953, in Russell to Louden Junior and Zella Mae Gatton. Lila was raised on the family farm south of Bunker Hill. She graduated from Russell High School and later earned a B.S. in home economics from Kansas State University in 1975. Lila met her husband of 33 years, Clemeth Frederick "Fred" Abercrombie, in Salina, where she served as the Saline County Extension 4-H Agent from 1975 until 1982. She is a past president of the Kansas Association of Extension 4-H Agents.
In 1986, after her two children were born, Fred and Lila moved their family to a farm near Bunker Hill. In 1991, they moved to their present home outside Wilson. She served children with special needs in the Wilson and Dorrance schools from 1992 to 2010 as a special education paraprofessional for Central Kansas Cooperative in Education.

Lila's life mission was to give care and help to others in need through volunteering and friendship. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. Lila was an excellent water skier and took every opportunity to enjoy nature with her family and friends. She was the foundation of love in her family.

Lila is survived by her husband; her son, Clemeth Louden Abercrombie, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her daughter, Calley Mae Vance and husband Bruce, of Lawrence; and her brothers, Lee Gatton and wife Beverly, of Overland Park, and Steve Gatton and family, of Longview, Texas.

In accordance with her wishes, Lila was cremated and her ashes will be spread across the prairie at her home near Wilson. Memorials may be made to the Cross Plains Cemetery, 18942 Stickney Road, Russell 67665, in her memory.
