Glenn Welch 82, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, after a period of declining health.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Austin Welch and Pearl Morgan Welch. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gail; brothers, Hal, Clyde, Paul, Dover, and Thad Welch; and one sister, Nell Baxter.
Mr. Welch spent a number of years in Michigan were he owned Reliable Window and Siding Company. After moving back to Franklin in 1961, he was active in the construction business and was co-owner of Welch-Tarkington Construction Company in Atlanta, Ga. In his early years, he was an avid hunter. After retiring, he enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Annie Huggins Welch; sons, Gerald Welch and wife Faye of Tennessee, Douglas Welch and wife Sheila; daughters, Sharon Bowes and husband Robert and Janet Neal and husband Keith, all of Franklin; eight grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Claude Welch of Franklin; and two sisters, Dorothy Cliff and Joyce Carter of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Reeves and Nelse Bates officiating.
Burial will be in the Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mickey Daniels, Mitchell Owenby, Cordell Hall, Jim Fouts, David Arbuckle, and Chris Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Benard Huggins, David Fouts, D. L. Huggins, Gary Welch, Joe Tippett, and Dale Welch.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, at Macon Funeral Home. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
