Suzie Carlson, 70, of Cambridge died March 21, 2012 at Cortlandt Healthcare in Cortlandt Manor, NY. Ramona Sue Carlson was born Nov. 10, 1941 in Cambridge, MN, to Ward and Viola (Olson) Young. She was preceded in death by her father, Ward Young, daughter, Ronda Carlson, and sister, Shelby Jean Carlson. She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960. Suzie was very active in school activities. Suzie devoted her life to raising her three children, giving of herself as a mother to provide a happy loving home. She was also very active in the community, volunteering with numerous organizations including the Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce, Harbor Room and MS Society. She did it all, and always with a smile. She enjoyed crafts and was a very artistic person. From her paintings to wallpapering, her ceramics to homemade cards and gift wrapping, she had a creative way of doing things. Suzie loved spending time with her friends, especially enjoying her annual trip up north with her classmates. She had many gatherings of friends and she enjoyed sharing a glass of wine with them. Suzie loved life and enjoyed every moment. Suzie worked as a personal Banking Officer at Peoples Bank of Commerce for 36 years, retiring in December 2010. During her years of service she became known to many as an institution at Peoples. She developed many strong friendships with customers and coworkers at the bank over the years. In recent years her greatest joys were her four 'grandbabies'. Suzie became an integral part of their lives and she celebrated the joy of watching them grow. Suzie will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jamie (Pam) Carlson of Circle Pines; daughter, Laura (Scott) Lerner of Montgomery, NY; mother, Viola Young of Cambridge; brother, Jim (Jeannie) Young of Cambridge; four precious grandchildren, Jonah and Valerie Carlson, and Kate and Ryan Lerner; loving nieces and nephews, Brad Carlson, Steph Carlson, Teri Kalthoff and David Young, their families; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev. David Everett officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 26 at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Renee Volk will serve as soloist and Mary Kay O'Neill as pianist. Pallbearers are Brad Carlson, David Young, Dave Kalthoff, Peter Price, Jeff Anlauf and Gerald Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Jonah Carlson and Ryan Lerner. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel.
