Clarence was a star football player in high school and at Scheiner Institute in Kerrville. When the United States entered World War II, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a radioman aboard the USS Pocomoke in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Kingsville and opened his own radio and TV repair shop. He also served as a technician for one or two local radio stations. Clarence was never married.
