Dorothy Ann Serra, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Kinwat Avenue in Essex, Md., passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at her home.

She was born June 10, 1934, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Arlie and Mayme (Miller) Sparks. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Essex. She retired from John Hopkins Hospital, where she was secretary to the vice president. Her husband Frank Serra, passed away in 2007.

Dorothy will always be remembered for the love she gave her family and her generous spirit.

She is survived by two daughters; Linda Wagner and husband Jerry of Hagerstown and Karen King and husband Douglas of White Marsh, Md,; sisters Mary Stanley of Ashland and Martha Cripple of Findlay, Ohio, brother Edward Sparks of Ashland; grandchildren Jennifer Ford of Perry Hall, Md., Michael B Wagner of Bel Air, Md., and Jamie Thomas Wagner of Hagerstown; and great-grandchildren Haley and Brendon Ford, Kaitlyn, Megan and Hunter Wagner and Jack Thomas.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxie Tackett; for brothers, Arlie Sparks, John Sparks, James Sparks and Joseph Sparks.

Funeral serivces will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Jack Ewald officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 1 at the funeral home.
