Mr. Jewett was treasurer of The Bishop Seabury Mission and Shattuck School, financial agent of St. Mary's Hall and vice-president of the Security Bank. He joined the Society of the Colonial Wars, State of Minnesota, and became deputy governor. He was also a member of the New York chapter of the Mayflower Society and the Society of the Sons of the Revolution as well as a member and vestryman of the parish of the Good Shepherd. He also held the position of mayor of Faribault for two terms and participated in historical and patriotic subjects.
He made many travels through the northwest, including the Dakotas in the earliest pioneer and frontier days. Many of his objects that he gathered travelling are found for sale by the National Museum of the American Indian in their Collections Search.
