Anita Ruth Barnes Anthony, 80, of Vale, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 24, 2012. She was a true farmer's wife in every way.
Viewing will be at Lienkaemper Chapel, Vale from 5-7 p.m. Thursday March 29th. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday March 30th at St Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
She was born July 22, 1931 in a small house outside of Spokane, WA to Blair and Helen Barnes who lived in the Flathead Lake area near Polson, MT. During her grade school years, the family moved to Brogan then to the farm west of Vale on Bully Creek. She attended Vale schools and was a member of the VUHS Class of '49. Many of her classmates have been lifelong friends.
She moved to town and worked at Malheur Drug and for Idaho Power. On May 4, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart Raymond Anthony. Together they raised kids and farmed.
Anita was involved in everything on the farm in Sand Hollow. She milked cows, hoed beets, chased cows and was always proud of how good her chopped hay stacks looked. She then went to the house to take care of everything else including making hand sewn clothes till late into the night.
Things Mom always talked about were Montana, Brogan dances, square dancing at the World's Fair, a trip Down Under, fishing, her 75th birthday party and pinochle parties. Shortly after her and Raymond sold the cows and moved to Ontario, Ray passed away. Anita spent her time following her grandkids and then with her friend Leroy. She was extremely proud of her children and grandkids. As she watched them grow up she rarely missed their fairs, sports, concerts, dance recitals, 4-H and FFA activities or anything else they had going on.
She is survived by her kids: Charlie and Wendy Anthony, Coupeville, WA – Chuck, JJ and Matt; Barbara Chambers, Farmington, NM – Jackie, Marcus and Olivia; Kate Anthony Alvarado, Ontario – Ryan, Jason, Danielle; Diana and Jeff Burkhardt, Vale – Derek and Alisa; Larry and Linda Keeton, Payette – Mike and Jamie and by her brothers Leland and Ray Barnes and sister Evelyn Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her parents, Blair and Helen Barnes, and her sister, Eileen Bishop.
The family would welcome memorials to the Anita Anthony Fund at US Bank. Funds will be used to benefit Local FFA Chapters for improvements at the fair.
