Gladys M. Beatty, 82, of Mapleton Depot RR1, died Tuesday, Dec. 12,2000, at her home. Born Nov. 10, 1918, in Bellwood, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Blanche (Whitesel) Witters. Her husband,James Scott Beatty, whom she married March 13, 1937, died April 26,1965. Surviving are: children, William S. "Bill" Beatty, Jonestown RR2,Beverly A. Boozel, James Creek RR1, Mary A. Boozel, Big Green Briar Road, McVeytown, and Donna Neely, Maryland; a sister, Nora Railing,Chambersburg; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by three children, Dorothy Mae Branthafer, Jane E.Gibson, and Frederick L. Beatty, who was killed in action in Vietnam; and three sisters, Mary Jane Beatty, Ruth Jury, and Grace Wakefield. She was a homemaker. She attended the Beech Run Church of the Brethren,Mapleton RR1. She enjoyed embroidery and volunteered as a helper at the senior citizens center in the Three Springs area. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,with the Rev. Raymond Hill officiating. Interment will be in Bowman's Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton RR1
