Barbara J. Curtis, of Boise, died Thursday March 22, 2012.

Barbara was born February 13, 1931 in Carter, Wyoming, daughter of Omer and Beulah Maupin. She moved to Idaho at the age of 13. Her family owned the Day and Night Café in Burley, Idaho where she worked along with her sisters, Evelyn and Geneva.

She graduated from Hazelton High School in May of 1951, and then moved to San Francisco, CA where she attended Dental Nurses Training School, graduating in November 1951. She then moved to Boise where she met and later married Robert E. Curtis on December 5, 1952.

When Bob was transferred to England in 1953, Barb moved to Jerome, ID where she worked for the local gas company. Upon Bob's return in 1956, they moved to Boise where she worked at Sears Roebuck and Co. In 1969 she went to work for the State Department of Higher Education as an Account Clerk, Research Librarian, Personnel/Business Officer and "Jill-of-all-Trades". During this time Barb also raised two wonderful children, Vicky and Dan.

Upon retirement in 1988, Barb and Bob became snowbirds, traveling the southwestern states chasing the sun.

Barb had a loving and giving spirit. She was full of life and laughter and dealt with whatever came her way in a positive and graceful manner. She touched the lives of many people and was a friend to everyone. Friends knew they could stop by anytime without notice for a bite to eat, have a drink or just to visit. Barb was a great listener, willing to share her wisdom, always finding the good in the bad. She told us many times that she will be sad to leave us, but happy to be back with her true love and soul mate, remembering the good things in life.

Barb always wanted to be a nurse. While she never worked in the nursing field she was always a caregiver right up until she passed, worrying about her own caregivers and their comfort. She never imposed on anyone, not even her children. She always said we had our own busy lives and only wanted us to be there because we wanted to and had the time.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Omer & Beulah Maupin; sisters, Evelyn Summy, Geneva Frazier and Esther Maupin; brothers, Walter and Ralph Maupin; and husband, Robert E. Curtis.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Vicky (Gary) Fisher; devoted son, Dan (Shelly) Curtis; and two grandsons: Travis Ingle and Daniel Scott Curtis, all of Boise.

Special thanks to Aunt Jean and Idaho Home Care (Karen and Janet) and Life's Doors Hospice (Crystal, Nikki, Jenna & Darren), along with her great friends and neighbors.

Donations may be sent to Life's Doors Hospice, P.O. Box 5754, 420 Orchard, Boise, ID 83705.
