Etta Benner was the daughter of Henry Teachout and Betsy Vaughn. She lived in Covert, Van Buren, Michigan most of her life. She married Aaron J. Benner in 1894 and they were the parents of five children-Howard R., Lucy Ann, Amanda, Henry N., & Aaron Benner.

Amanda had epilepsy and as Henrietta & her husband, Aaron aged they were unable to continue caring for her at home. They then moved to Rolland, Isabella, Michigan so she could live at Caro State Hospital in Indian Fields, Tuscola, Michigan.
