NEW CARLISLE - Mrs. Mary Ann Bowen, 75, passed away at 11:50 AM Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Bowen was born on November 12, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Genevive (Fietko) Boyd. She lived in this area for 15 years, coming from Chicago. She worked as a Travel Agent for Bridgeport News, Travel & Tours, Inc. On September 10, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, she married Edward E. Bowen, who survives. She was a member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church, St. John Kanty Rosary Sodality, St. Gabriel Women's Club, volunteered for Sharing Meadows, VNA, St. John Kanty Parish volunteer, volunteered as a computer coach for seniors, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind husband, two daughters, Pat (Ken) Markham, Glenview, IL, Jill (Bob) McAllister, Bloomingdale, IL; five sons, Ed (Laura) Bowen, Chicago, IL, Jack (Kathy) Bowen, Des Plaines, IL, Tim (Liz) Bowen, Las Vegas, NV, Bill (Colleen) Bowen, Chesterton, IN, and Mike (Nancy) Bowen, LaPorte, IN; 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Gerlach, Houston, TX;, several nieces and nephews; dear sister-in-law, Jean Bowen. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Kathleen Bowen, and one son, Dan Bowen. Funeral Mass will be at St John Kanty Catholic Church on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 10 AM, with Rev Michael Heimer and Rev Dennis Blaney officiating. Visitation will be from 3-9 PM Friday and 8:30-9:30 AM Saturday at Essling Funeral Home. Rosary will be Friday evening at 7:30 PM at Essling Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. John Kanty Cemetary. Essling Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sharing Meadows, P.O. Box 400, Rolling Prairie, IN 46371.
