WILLARD E. ALFORD
A graveside service for Willard E."Bill" Alford of Salinas, Calif., a former Oregon City resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City.
Mr. Alford died May 17 in a Salinas hospital of complications from cronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 71.
He was born July 20, 1919, in Halsey. He married Opal Yvonne Thompson on April 4, 1942, in West Linn, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
An employee of Southern Pacific railroad for 41 years, Mr. Alford worked as an assistant signal supervivor in Portland, Oak Ridge, Ogden, Utah and Klamath Falls. He lived in the Clackamas County area for about 18 years, and had been a resident of Salinas since 1964. Mr. Alford retired in 1979.
Survivors besides his wife include his sons, Michael W. of West Linn and Darrell V. of Westboro, Mass; sister, Reine Shook of Albany; and one grandchild.
The family suggests that rememberances be contributions to a favorite charity.
