Mary E. Babb, 84, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born July 2, 1925, in Muncy Valley, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Ambra Chestnut Swank. Her husband of 34 years, Alvin D. Babb, preceded her in death on May 9, 1982.
Mary was a member of the Point Bethel United Methodist Church and judge of elections for Shrewsbury Township for over 20 years. She was always very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Lois A. Phillips of Muncy Valley and Carol J. (Ronald) Rine of Hughesville; two sons, Merl A. (Sharon) Babb and Neal L. Babb, both of Hughesville; a step-son, Donald D. (Judy) Babb of Muncy; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Babb and two brothers, George and Harry Swank.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
