He was born at Havana, Illinois, February 21, 1843. The son of Cyrenus W. Andrus and Lucy Rockwell. They had moved from Watertown, New York in, 1836.
Clark N. Andrus was their only living child when he enlisted. He was appointed sergeant major in compnay K, 85th Illinois Infantry at the organization of the regiment.
He then was appointed 2nd Lieutenant of company E, 85th Illinois Infantry, in January, 1863, and adjutant of the regiment in February of, 1864. He was severly wounded in the arm at the assault on Kennesaw Mountain, Goergia, June 27, 1864.
His arm was amputated in the field hospital and he was taken to hospital number 3 at Nashville, Tennessee, where gangrene set in and his arm was reamputated. He died in that hospital on July 23, 1864.
