"Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, Md. for Mrs. Veronica Bell, 84, formerly of Howard Street Westernport, who died 25 March at the home of her daughter in Richmond, Va. The Rev. Richard Woy officiated and burial was in Philos Cemetery.

Born 16 July 1912 in Midland, she was the daughter of Thomas Stakem and Elizabeth Mullen Stakem. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Bell, 12 Apr 1978; three brothers, Thomas Stakem, John Stakem and Patrick Stakem and a sister, Mrs. Marie Mellor.

Mrs. Bell was a graduate of St. Peter's School in Westernport and Frostburg University. She was an elementary school teacher until the time of her retirement in 1973. She taught the first and second grades at McCoole and Piedmont.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport.

She is survived by one (adopted) daughter Mrs. Susan Rosen and husband, Larry, Richmond and two grandchildren, Ryan Rosen and Allison Rosen.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn."

WESTERNPORT,MARYLAND -- Veronica Bell, 84, formerly of Howard Street, Westernport, died on Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Richmond, Va.

Born July 16, 1912, in Midland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Stakem and Elizabeth (Mullen) Stakem. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Bell, on April 12, 1978; three brothers, Thomas, Patrick and John Stakem; and a sister, Mrs. Marie Mellor.

Mrs. Bell was a graduate of St. Peter's School, Westernport, and Frostburg State University. She was an elementary school teacher until her retirement in 1973. She taught first and second grades at McCoole and Piedmont. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Susan Rosen and husband Larry, Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Allison Rosen.

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Woy officiating.

Interment will follow in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

Family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
