Barry - Sister Mary Martin, a Dominican Sister of San Rafael for 71 years, died on October 4, 1999, at Lourdes Convent in San Rafael after a long illness. She was 96 years of age. Sister Martin taught at St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Vallejo, St. Rose Academy in San Franciscco, and Dominican Convent Upper School in San Rafael. For Many years Sister Martin served at the Dominican College of San Rafael as professor of English and Dean of the Graduate School. Upon retirement, Sister Martin was the archivist for the Dominican Sisters until 1995.
Sister Martin is survived by her sisters-in-law, Grace Barry of San Jose, Mary Elizabeth Barry of San Carlos, and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass wil be held on Thursday Oct.7, 1999 at the Dominican Sisters Gathering Space, 1520 Grand Avenue, San Rafael, at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be on Friday, Oct. 8, 1999 at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benicia.
