HUGHES--James E. Hughes, age 83 of 129 K ave east, life-long resident of Oskaloosa and community, died at 9:40 pm Thursday, Jan 1, at Mahaska hospital. He was born in Oskaloosa, the son of Patrick and Lucy Reilly Hughes. surviving are: his wife, Minnie Hughes of Oskaloosa; six daughters, Miss Agnes Hughes of Oakaloosa, Mrs. Catherine Mark of Lucas, Nev., the Sister Francella of Mundelein, ILL; Mrs. Dorothy Celania of Ottumwa; Mrs. Edith McConkey of Blakesburg and Mrs. Ester Flander of Montezuma; three sons, John of Albia, William of Eddyville and Robert of Newton; 32 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be Monday, Jan 5 at 9 am at St. Mary Catholic church. Father Dennis Cahalan will be in charge with burial at St. Mary's cemetery. Rosary will be said at the Garland chapel Sunday, Jan 4, at 7:30 pm.
