Mary O. Bigsby, lived 100 years in Taunton home

Mary Ormsby Bigsby, 100, of 4362 Fay Road, Taunton, died Monday at her home. She lived in the family homestead on Fay Road all her life.

Mrs. Bigsby recently celebrated her 100th birthday by donating a drumlin – Bigsby Hill – on her land to Save the County organization as a memorial to her late son, Gerald, who planted and took care of the 12,000 trees on the drumlin.

The hill was owned by Mrs. Bigsby's family for more than 130 years. Mrs. Bigsby was a life member of Taunton Memorial United Presbyterian Church, and a member of its Deborah Circle and Women's Club. She was also a member of Taunton Home Interest Club and of the Geddes Grange.

Surviving are two sons, J. Milton Bigsby of Liverpool, and Marvin O. Bigsby of Dewitt; a daughter-in-law, Betty Bigsby, with whom she lived; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services were held today in Taunton Memorial United Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Gerald M. Shave and the Rev. Michael Heath officiating.

Burial was in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, Phoenix. Contributions may be made to Taunton Memorial United Presbyterian Church or Taunton Fire Department.

Greenleaf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
